Holy Chocomole!

June 15, 2011

So it seems my favorite topics to write about these days are pregnancy (duh) and sugar cravings. I recently wrote about how I finally solved a missing piece of my own sugar cravings puzzle when I finally started eating more protein.  And boy have I been eating protein!

I think I told you also that I don’t really like eggs all that much so my favorite way to eat them has been to boil them and have them cold with some salt. Two of those little nuggets of goodness a day and I’ve been feeling satisfied and strong (I’m a big supporter of eating eggs from humanely raised chickens. We get ours delivered to us from a local farm). Add some Greek yogurt, nuts and grass-fed beef (also from the farm) into the mix and I’m a happy camper. By no means have I eliminated sugar from my diet, but I’m feeling a lot more in control of the whole thing (no more early morning doughnut runs). Finally!

My philosophy is if you have to have sweets (and who doesn’t?), I think it’s a whole lot better if you can make them yourself using upgraded ingredients, less sugar and no artificial nastiness. Over the weekend I made some amazing banana-chocolate chip muffins which I promise to share with you soon. Who said life was about complete deprivation?

And speaking of no deprivation, I’m so excited to have found some awesome dessert recipes for my upcoming cleansers. That’s right! My group’s going to be rocking a 5-day whole foods cleanse and still get to enjoy yummy treats that fit within the guidelines. I figure they are going to be making so many amazing changes, why not give them a little reward? We all need a little sweetness now and again!

Avocado Chocolate Pudding

This “pudding” is completely dairy free, uses natural sweeteners and tastes amazing! Kind of reminds me of those Black Bean Brownies I made last year.

Avocado Chocolate Pudding (AKA Chocomole!)
From the book: Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr

1 ripe avocado, peeled
6-10 dates
½ tsp vanilla
2-3 tbsp cocoa powder
½ cup water
Blend first four ingredients. Add water slowly until well mixed and “pudding” is smooth and creamy. Enjoy! Serves 2.

Also-if you’d like to enjoy treats like this while still cleansing your body naturally with whole foods, I’d love to have you join us for the next cleanse! It all begins on June 27th. Sign up here.

I love the book Crazy Sexy Diet! Kris Carr is such an inspiration. I have made a raw chocolate cake before and the filling is very similar – your cleansers are going to love this special treat. :)
